The Design Team at Fryday & Doyne Architects was directed to renovate this 50,000 SF, two building complex to provide corporate and administrative offices for the Charlotte Housing Authority. The Housing Authority, located in several buildings in the area, would come together into one facility. Our design was to provide a new level of efficiency and the ability to share space and functions among the groups due to the co-location nature of the completed project. Since some departments had extensive contact with the public entering the building, while others did not, careful zoning of the facility for access and security was required. Location of conference rooms, work/storage rooms, and employee support spaces had to be carefully planned for ease of access. The owner expressed the desire to have a building meeting objectives for energy efficiency and sustainability.
